Abstract: »This study analyses a concrete type of sexual violence, rape, concerning women through a representative collection of documented evidence between 10th and 12thcenturies from North-Western Iberia, and the main social attitudes towards rape will be discussed, both aggressors, victims, and judges. Therefore, a lexical study will first be used to define what rape is and how it can be found in documents. Coetaneous chronicles, hagiographies and sermons will be used to offer a perspective on sexual crimes in discourses of power and exemplars. The samples cover the initial complaints from the women told in first person to the final admissions of guilt by the aggressors. The goal is to investigate how women can combat this aggression, report the facts, and bring about consequences on the aggressors.« (Source: Studia Historica. Historia Medieval)
